The Princeton University Humanities Council invites applications for the Behrman Professorship in the Humanities to begin in AY 2021-22. The position is a three-year appointment, with three professors appointed at any one time. Applicants must be Princeton faculty of tenured rank.
The Professor will enhance the continuity of the double-credit, year-long sequence “Interdisciplinary Approaches to Western Culture” (HUM 216-219) and raise the profile of the Program in Humanistic Studies by supporting the independent research of certificate juniors and seniors. In addition to coordinating a complex course with a 12-faculty team, the Professor will design and lead activities that offer students explicit practice in bridging a diversity of fields and disciplines.

The certificate in Humanistic Studies enrolls students from all divisions and disciplines, offering three interdisciplinary sequences, colloquia and excursions, and team-taught courses in established and emerging fields, including urban, medical, environmental, and digital humanities.

Yelena Baraz (Classics) is team teaching a HUM 470 capstone seminar—“Ancient Plots, Modern Twists”–with Jhumpa Lahiri (Creative Writing) in Spring 2020.
Coordinating the year-long Humanities Sequence this year is Denis Feeney (Classics).
Moulie Vidas (Religion) begins his three-year term in Spring 2021, teaching in HUM 216-217.
